What do you do when you release a game that is instantly loved by players? Well, you wait the requisite amount of time and head back for a sequel of course. That’s what Relax Gaming are doing today as they revisit their 2021 release, Wild Chapo. Technically speaking, this is the third time the team have brought us a Wild Chapo release, but the second was a mere addition of their Dream Drop Jackpots, making this the first true sequel – aptly titled Wild Chapo 2. With a fixed RTP of 96.10% (96.50% feature buy), this highly (5/5) volatile release is capable of producing wins up to 20,000x bet.

Wild Chapo 2 Base Game

Visually, there’s nothing too different about Wild Chapo 2. Relax Gaming have brought us back to the desert, although this time instead of being in a house or bar or whatever it was the first time around, we’re in a building with a jail cellar in it. Apart from this it’s all what you would expect – sandy landscapes, clear blue skies, cacti, and some sombreros, skulls, buckets, and barrels. We do have a few fun little characters that pop up when the screen is static for a while, like a Chihuahua out of the bucket, an owl from behind the reels, a donkey from the barrel, and the shadow of Chapo running along behind the cellar bars. Audios are suitably Latin American, and tie the whole thing together nicely.

Taking place across 6 reels, wins are formed on Wild Chapo 2 by matching at least 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel, across 1 of 25 fixed win lines. Symbols available begin with non premiums, with four padlocks – blue, green, orange, and red in colour, awarding wins between 0.40 and 1x bet for matches between 3 and 6 of a kind. In the mid-range we have blue, green, and red bottles, awarding wins between 0.60 and 2x bet, again for matches between 3 and 6 of a kind. Premiums bring our characters back, with Chihuahuas, owls, donkeys, and Chapo. Land 3 of a kind of any premium to see wins between 1 and 2x bet, increasing to values between 4 and 20x bet for 6 of a kind matches. Wild Chapo 2 does, obviously, come with Wild symbols, but we’ll explain more on these below.

Wild Chapo 2 Wild Re-Spins

Just like its predecessor, all the action in Wild Chapo 2 comes from the Wild symbols, which are present on reels 2-5. On any spin, if a Wild symbol is involved in a win, a re-spin is awarded. Wild symbols are held in place during re-spins, which continue until there is no win formed that includes a Wild symbol.

Every Wild symbol that lands will have a number between 1-5 attached to it. This indicates the number of times the Wild symbol must be involved in a win before being collected, with this number decreasing by -1 each time the Wild is used in a win. Once the number attached to a Wild symbol reaches 0, it is collected in the cell area below the reels, under the reel it had originally landed upon. When multiple Wild symbols are collected on the same reel, each new Wild increases the overall multiplier for that reel by +x1.

When all re-spins have ended, any collected Wild symbols move from the cell below back up onto the main reels, and a Final Spin is awarded. Each Wild from the cell will completely fill the reel above it, creating a Wild reel. Any multiplier associated with the collected Wild will be added to the Wild reel. If more than one multiplier Wild reel is involved in a win, their multiplier values will be multiplied together before being applied to the win.

Wild Chapo 2 Free Spins

During Free Spins, things continue in the same way as they do in the base game, with a couple of enhancements. Firstly, all Wild symbols that land on the reels will stick in their position for the duration of spins – either until the Final Spin, or until they have been collected. Any Wilds still present when the Final Spin is awarded will be pushed off the reels when the Wild reels move up from the cell area below the reels.

Secondly, every Bonus symbol that lands during Free Spins will award an additional +1 spins.

Players in appropriate regions can skip straight to the action with the chance to Buy Feature. For a cost of 70x bet, players guarantee entry into Free Spins, with a random number of Bonus symbols between 3 and 6, awarding between 7 and 25 Free Spins. RTP increases slightly, to 96.50%, when buying the feature.

The maximum win available in Wild Chapo 2 is 20,000x bet. If the sum of a single game round exceeds this, the game round will end and 20,000x bet will be awarded.

First Impression

If there’s one thing about a sequel, it has to be ‘better’ than the original, right? It feels like Wild Chapo 2 covers all the bases on that front. The overall playing experience feels better now – where in Wild Chapo players’ aim was to land Bonus Symbols to convert to Wilds at the end of Free Spins, we now have Wilds that land naturally, and once they are collected they transform to Wild reels. So rather than an all or nothing situation, players still have a good chance of landing nice wins, even if no Wild actually manages to be collected.

This means the base game has a good amount of excitement, but it is Free Spins where things kick into high gear, especially with Wild symbols sticking into position until they have been collected. The result is that much like the first edition, this release builds tension like no other when waiting for that Final Spin. When the right combinations land, wins are possible up to 20,000x bet – double the 10,000x bet potential of Wild Chapo. RTP has taken a slight dip from the original and is now 96.10% (96.50% feature buy), but with values still fixed and above 96.0% in both base game and bonus buys, who can complain? Finally, maths is highly (5/5) volatile.
