Back in 2019, Relax Gaming released The Great Pigsby – a glitzy release with Expanding Wilds, Free Spins, and Respins. The Great Pigsby was so well received the team then decided to apply the Big Time Gaming Megapays mechanic to it in April 2022. Now, this glamorous pig is making a comeback in The Great Pigsby Megaways – the second example of a Big Time Gaming mechanic being applied. This highly (5/5) volatile release comes with a fixed RTP of 96.08%, and is capable of producing wins up to 20,000x bet.

Visually, it’s all very roaring twenties. We’re outside an expansive mansion – presumably the pig idea of Gatsby’s home. Spotlights sit in the distance, with a huge swimming pool in the foreground, and twinkling stars in the sky. Basically, it’s time for a party – and an elegant one at that. Music is suitable for the theme, a bit like that of AvatarUX‘s PapayaPop – easy to put you in the mood to go out for the evening.

Taking place across 6 reels, wins are formed by matching at least 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost reel. Up to 7 symbols can land on each reel, producing 117,649 ways to win. Symbols available begin with non-premiums, with 10s, Js, Qs, Ks, and As – all of which award wins between 0.10 and 0.40x bet for matches between 3 and 6 of a kind. In the mid-range, we have cigars and whiskey, followed by gramophones and jewelled headbands, each of which award wins between 0.20 and 0.30x bet for 3 of a kind, increasing to values between 0.50 and 1x bet for 6 of a kind. Finally, we have a female and a male pig all glammed up – awarding wins of 0.50 and 0.70x bet respectively for 3 of a kind, increasing to 2 and 3x bet respectively for 6 of a kind.

The Great Pigsby Re-Spin

The first thing to cover in The Great Pigsby Megaways is the Wild symbol. Wilds can land on any reel, and substitute for all symbols. When a Wild lands, it will expand to cover its’ entire reel – being given a multiplier to represent the number of symbols on the reel it has covered.

Wilds work hand in hand with the Piggy Bank feature. Every Wild that lands and expands to cover its’ reel will be collected into the Piggy Bank above the reel area. Each time a Wild is collected, there is a chance that it will trigger one of the following features:

• Wild Re-spin – a re-spin is awarded, wherein between 2-5 reels are turned Wild before reels have stopped. Each Wild has a multiplier to represent the number of symbols it has replaced.
• Great Pigsby Re-spin – a re-spin is awarded, wherein a number of Pigsby symbols (the highest paying symbol) are placed onto the reel area before reels have stopped.

The Great Pigsby Megaways Bonus

After triggering the bonus through the Piggy Bank feature, 10 Free Spins are awarded. There is no other way to trigger Free Spins, however Scatter symbols are active in Free Spins. Whenever a Scatter lands, +2 spins are awarded, and one of the non-premium royal symbols (10, J, Q, K, or A) is deactivated on the reels. This begins with the lowest symbol (10) and moves through non-premiums until they have all been deactivated).

After non-premiums are deactivated, they are replaced by a mid or high value symbol in all future spins. If more than one non-premium symbol has been deactivated, they can be replaced by the same or different mid or high value symbols.

The maximum win available in The Great Pigsby Megaways is 20,000x bet. If the sum of a single game round exceeds this, the game round will end and 20,000x bet will be awarded.

First Impression

It’s all very glamorous in this release – and as such, there’s something about playing The Great Pigsby Megaways that feels decadent, almost like you deserve a big win. However, in a strange twist of fate most features and chances of big wins are triggered through one feature alone – the Piggy Bank. This does help to keep the base game ticking over, knowing that at the end of every spin involving a Wild, Free Spins could trigger. Outside of Free Spins, the Wild Re-spin and Great Pigsby Re-spin are both easily capable of producing potent combinations.

Moving into Free Spins, and things do feel somewhat exciting, although it feels like something is missing slightly – maybe a multiplier? That said, the mechanic works, and when the right combinations hit wins are possible up to 20,000x bet – so no complaints from us. Volatility is rated 5/5, so high, and RTP is fixed at 96.08% – something you know to expect from Relax, but which feels better each time, as RTP from various other studios continues to take a dive.

I don’t think you have to have been a fan of the series so far, or even the extravagant theme, to see the value in this release. That said, if you’ve already enjoyed The Great Pigsby, or it’s Megapays sibling, you’ll probably take to this one with ease.
