Now, we’re being introduced to Legacy of Oz Hyper Spins, a magical adaption that follows on well from the original, by offering multiple expanding symbols, frequent retriggers, and a respin feature to enable players to take somewhat of a shortcut to free spins. From a visual standpoint, graphics are clear, and a definite upgrade from Book of Oz, with a clear purple background lined with emerald pillars, and audios are upbeat, taking on an almost triumphant yet supernatural effect, kind of what you would expect from the final scenes in a Harry Potter movie. Wins of up to 5,000x bet are available in this highly volatile slot, aided by a hit frequency of 30.49% and an RTP of 96.11%, although a few settings are available.

Enhancing play within the base game is a respin feature, which enables players to spin reels individually, at a cost. After reels land, each of the 5 reels will have a cost marked underneath, wherein players can choose to spend this amount to respin the respective reel. This offers a chance to land additional wins, or trigger free spins. The cost will naturally be higher if the potential rewards are higher, such as awarding free spins, a line of premiums, or both. There is no limit to how many times reels can be re-spun, and players can respin any 1 reel at a time. Only wins involving the respin reel will be awarded, and if players change stake the cost will change accordingly. The respin feature is only available during the base game.

The chosen symbol then expands to cover reels, provided there are enough in view (3+ for regular symbols, or 2+ for premium symbols), for the duration of free spins. After any regular wins are paid, any special symbols in view expand paying across all lines, regardless of which reels they are on.

First Impression

Triple Edge Studios had all but drained the Land of Oz with previous releases Book of Oz and Book of Oz Lock ‘n Spin. In the more recent adaption, Lock ‘n Spin, small tweaks were visible which went towards providing an additional feature, and improving upon those already-existing. Now, Legacy of Oz takes the yellow brick road a step further by offering multiple expanding symbols in the bonus, a combination we know can be deadly in offerings such as Legacy of Dead and Rise of Merlin. Although this release is more of a step sideways than a leap forwards, it remains fun, with a great potential for wins and retriggers during free spins.

The respin feature during the base game does help to keep things somewhat interesting, and of course isn’t a requirement for players who would rather just play through things at a natural pace. Re-spinning reels, particularly for an additional Scatter symbol, can become costly, but can add a dash of excitement. On a technical front, the highest available RTP is fair at 96.11% and the maximum win of 5,000x bet is exactly what we can expect from a book style game, so in this respect Triple Edge are keeping up with the competition.

Book style releases continue to be loved by all, and although there isn’t much we can be offered in this classic styling now that would surprise or impress us, Legacy of Oz is a solid addition to the ever growing list of games in this genre, and a great addition to the Triple Edge Studios catalogue.
