Big Time Gaming have been on a run of releasing some interesting slots over the past year, including two of their newest Megas: Megaclusters and Megaquads. This month, they’re taking us back to the original Mega with the release of King of Cats Megaways, whilst also introducing us to a new mechanic, Playerselect™. With this upcoming release, players have the option to choose between two different base game modes, offering the choice of the lion game or puma game. It looks like Big Time Gaming are taking it upon themselves to discover once and for all who really is the King of Cats, and they’re doing so on a 6 reel board located on the African Plains for the lion game, and the depths of the jungle for puma fans. As always, Big Time Gaming have put an extra dose of thought into the audio tracks on this slot, offering an African-esque backing track to compliment the theme.
Volatility is high on King of Cats, offering players the chance for some huge wins. Big Time Gaming choose not to cap their slots at a maximum win, and instead have instructed that the maximum win per spin is 56,000x. RTP for the lion game sits at 96.72%, and 96.70% for the puma game. A very small difference, but a distinction nonetheless. Between 2 and 6 symbols can land on each reel during play, giving players the chance to land up to 117,649 Megaways.
King of Cats Base Features
Wins pay left to right on King of Cats Megaways, where the pay table consists of 10 symbols, continuing the tradition Big Time Gaming established long ago. At the lower end, royals of 9, 10, J, Q, K and A pay between 0.4 and 0.8x stake for 6 of a kind, requiring a minimum of 3 symbols to count towards a win. Premium symbols are the coloured gems we’ve come to know and expect: green, blue, red and purple, in ascending order of win size, awarding between 1 and 25x stake for 6 of a kind. The highest paying purple gem symbol, which pays 25x stake for 6 of a kind, also pays for 2 of a kind. Regular, Lion and Puma Wilds are in play, depending on the mode chosen, and substitute for all symbols except the Scatter, occurring on reels 2-5 only. Landing 3 or more golden paw print scatters awards the respective Free Spins for the chosen game.
Much like their most recent Megaways release, Wheel of Fortune Megaways, Big Time Gaming have opted to bypass the popular cascade feature with King of Cats Megaways. However, the most common issue with non-cascading Megaways slots is the consideration that they are “boring”, but King of Cats takes a leap away from that label by adding in some interesting features in the base game to replace the need for a cascade. With Playerselect, players can choose between the lion game and puma game, which offers separate features depending on your choice. Players can continue to alternate between the game modes if they wish, or can stick to just one mode once they’ve chosen a favourite.
King of Cats Playerselect™ & Bonus
Lion Game: During the lion game 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 Lion Wilds are available, with multipliers of x4, x9 and x16 respectively. 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters awards 8, 12, 16 or 20 Lion Free Spins respectively, where the same 2×2, 3×3 and 4×4 Lion Wilds are available, beginning with x4, x10 or x16 multipliers. Each time a Lion Wild appears, the multipliers increase by 2, 5 and 8 respectively. Landing 3 or more scatters during Lion Free Spins retriggers the feature.
Puma Game: During the puma game, up to 3 wild reels can land at any time, carrying multipliers of x2, x3 or x4. Landing 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters awards 15, 18, 21 or 24 Puma Free Spins respectively. During Free Spins, the first time a Puma Wild lands on any reel it will reveal a x2, x4 or x6 multiplier. Every time thereafter a Puma Wild occurs on the same reel, the three multipliers increase by 1, 2 and 3 respectively. Landing 3 or more scatters during Puma Free Spins retriggers the feature.
Lion Free Spins seem to take inspiration from The Final Countdown, with large multiplying roaming wilds, which we know by now is a recipe for some huge wins, whereas Puma Free Spins point back towards the multiplying wild reels we know and love from Danger High Voltage. This goes a long way toward showing the intelligence of Big Time Gaming, to realise the features players rate the highest from their catalogue, and present them to us in new and interesting ways.
First Impression
Big Time Gaming knock it out of the park time and time again, and it seems that King of Cats Megaways Playerselect is going to be no different. For a long time now, Big Time Gaming have offered us a choice of bonus features in the games within their catalogue, including Danger High Voltage, The Final Countdown, Lil’ Devil and Wild Flower. Now, they’ve taken that a step further by offering us a choice during the base game – not just a choice of colours and symbols, but a choice in the features we can activate. Both Lion and Puma modes within this slot each have their own unique selling point, and it will be interesting to see if the sector is as divided on this issue as we have always been on Gates vs High Voltage.
Further to offering this choice, players are not locked into any particular choice (unless Autoplay is in use), and can freely change between the two games, offering a freedom that is quite frankly required when both games offer such popular features. Moving into the Free Spins, and the features that will be so well liked during the Base Game have been elevated, with the possibly to increment respective multipliers by as much as 8 – a massive increase on any stake.
Graphics are clean and sounds are superb, which we’ve come to expect from a provider as established as Big Time Gaming. Lately, they’ve been on a mission to continually introduce games to us that can hit huge on any stake, and King of Cats is no exception to this new rule. Although the maximum stake on offer is 20, players won’t necessarily need to get anywhere near that value to see some huge results from this game, where wins of 56,000x+ are available in one spin.
