Twice now Stakelogic have made use of AvatarUX‘s PopWins mechanic – first in Joker Drop PopWins, and then not too long ago when they brought us Runner Runner PopWins. It seems the team have been back in front of the PopWins drawing board again, and their creation comes in the form of Delicious Candy PopWins – a release so sweet your teeth will hurt just looking at it. With an RTP of 95.80%, this highly volatile release is capable of producing wins up to 10,000x bet.
Visually – well, like I said, your teeth could hurt just looking at this one. There’s cake, candy, and lollipops, all set in front of clear blue skies, with hot hair balloons covered in sprinkles, reels surrounded in what seems to be shortbread, and clouds that look suspiciously like candy floss. Music is upbeat, and exactly the sort of thing that would go with a sickeningly sweet theme – although that’s not to say it mightn’t get tedious after a while.
Delicious Candy PopWins Base Features
Taking place across 5 reels, wins are formed on Delicious Candy PopWins by matching at least 3 symbols on adjacent reels, beginning with the leftmost or the rightmost reel. As wins pay both ways and each reel contains 3 symbols initially, there are a minimum of 486 ways to win available. Symbols begin with non premiums, with yellow, green, purple, aqua, orange, and red candies – awarding wins between 0.25 and 0.40x bet for 3 of a kind, increasing to values between 1 and 1.50x bet for 5 of a kind matches. In the mid range, we have 3 patterned candies – blue, purple, and pink, awarding wins between 0.50 and 0.75x bet for 3 of a kind, increasing to values between 2 and 3x bet for 5 of a kind. Finally, premiums consist of pink 7s, multicoloured stars, purple bars, and golden crowns – land 3 of a kind of any premium to see wins between 1 and 2.50x bet, increasing to values between 4 and 12.50x bet for 5 of a kind.
So the first thing to cover in Delicious Candy PopWins is, of course, the PopWins mechanic. On every spin, any symbols involved in a win will pop off the reels – each symbol is then replaced by 2 new symbols, giving the opportunity for new wins to form, and increasing ways to win. In the base game, each reel can hold a maximum of 6 symbols – producing 15,552 ways to win. PopWins will end when no new wins are formed.
Next up is the Super Stake option – which comes at a cost of doubling the bet. By activating Super Stake, multiplier symbols are added to the reels. If a multiplier symbol lands in view, it will multiply the total win of the spin. If more than one multiplier is in view, they will add together before being applied. Possible multiplier values are x2, x3, x4, x5, x6, x8, x10, x12, x15, x20, x25, x50, and x100.
Delicious Candy PopWins Bonus
Expand all reels to 6 symbols high in the base game to trigger Free Spins. Before Free Spins start, players are awarded between 5-15 spins and a starting win multiplier, determined through one of the three Bonus Wheels. The wheel that spins is randomly chosen, unless you have triggered the feature through the bonus buy, which we’ll get to soon. Wheel options are:
- Wheel 1 – x2, x3, x5, x8, x10
- Wheel 2 – x5, x8, x10, x12, x15
- Wheel 3 – x10, x12, x15, x20, x25
During Free Spins, all reels start with 6 symbols, or 15,552 ways to win. PopWins continue as normal, except now between spins, reels will only reset to the height of the smallest reel – ie, unlocking all reels to 7 symbols tall will stick for the duration of spins. Reels can reach a maximum height of 9 symbols, producing 118,098 ways to win.
Each PopWin cascade will increase the multiplier by +1 during Free Spins. If all reels reach the maximum height of 9 symbols, a boost of +2 will be added to the multiplier, and then all PopWin cascades will increase the multiplier by +2.
Players have the option to choose from four Buy Free Spin options:
- 15 Free Spins (up to x10 multiplier) – 80x bet
- 15 Free Spins (up to x15 multiplier) – 150x bet
- 15 Free Spins (up to x25 multiplier) – 400x bet
- Random number of Free Spins and random multiplier – 200x bet
Finally, a gamble is available in Delicious Candy PopWins – this is just a standard optional card suit/card colour gamble.
The maximum win available in Delicious Candy PopWins is 10,000x bet. If the sum of a single game round exceeds this, the game round will end, and 10,000x bet will be awarded.
First Impression
Stakelogic seem to be a fan of candy, given that they’ve released so many sweet themed games to date. I wouldn’t necessarily say this is the reason for their love, but candy is one of the easier themes to tackle – everything is so bright and colourful, and you can really have a lot of fun with it. This is certainly true in Delicious Candy PopWins, where even the clouds are made of candy floss. On the whole, it’s all quite fun to look at.
Gameplay is pretty much what you’d expect from a PopWins game – we’ve had so many of them now, there’s not much left to add. What Delicious Candy does do differently comes in the form of Super Stake, where by activating double your stake will add win multipliers up to x100 on to the reels – a pretty nice touch. When you move into Free Spins things definitely pick up a bit more, with multipliers that do not reset, and increasing ways that can stick in place – you know the drill.
As always, Stakelogic provide plenty of options for the player prone to a bonus buy – in this case, that’s 3 fixed options and one random option. Maths is highly volatile, RTP is 95.80%, and wins are available up to 10,000x bet, so no real complains there.
It’s hard to take something that has been done by one provider so many times. To compare this to Megaways, which has been licensed far more times than Big Time Gaming have released it themselves, it makes sense that everyone can do good with it. When it comes to PopWins, it feels like AvatarUX are the ones with the true vision for it. Still, if you’re in the market for a sickening, popping release – look no further.
